First up a massive high-five to everyone who’s bought the new This Years Winner Is EP! I hope you’re enjoying it and telling your friends about how awesome it is.
I’ve been tinkering with the shop a bit so it should be a bit easier to get around and find information payment and shipping details. All payments made through the shop are processed through PayPal to ensure all your details are secure. And don’t worry if you don’t have a PayPal account – you don’t need one! Speaking of bands, from now on I’ll be promoting hard to find the next bunch of Section Five bands and artists, so if you or anyone you know plays in a band and are serious about it tell them to get in touch. I can’t promise I will sign every band I receive demos from but I will listen to everything I get. Although Section Five is predominantly a punk and indie label don’t let that put you off, if I like it there’s a good chance I will do something with it. Send me a message on the contact page and we can go from there.

Well, I’m not quite sure that’s what it’s going to be called but I’m sure you get the idea by now.
This is just a quick update to let you know how we’re progressing. Obviously we have all the Slimpig tracks ready to go on it, but what of the cover artists? They’re coming on nicely! Duke Ukem have successfully recorded their cover (I’m not going to tell you which artist is doing which track, that will ruin the fun!) and Chris Flood’s is sounding spectactular, with a few little bits of mixing left to do.
Anna Goldsmith, Swound! and Suspect Package are working on theirs at the moment while I’m pretty chuffed to announce the Higgins Brothers have entered the fray and offered to record a track too. I can’t tell you how even more psyched I am on this album now.
So basically it’s coming and it’s going to be amazing. In other news we’re gearing up for the release of This Years Winner Is’s debut Ep ‘Always Goes Down Smooth’ so I’ll be talking about that and plugging it and what-not in the coming weeks.
Hey folks! This Years Winner Is went to Scotland recently and recorded a 5-track EP called ‘Always Goes Down Smooth’ which we have decided to release this EP digitally instead of the originally-intended single ‘Hit & Hope’ (which will more than likely be available soon regardless). You can hear a sampler and the single track from the EP, ‘Eleven’, on TYWI’s MySpace site.
The tracks are fantastic (even if I am a little biased!) and we can’t wait for you all to hear them. Hey up! Just a quickie to say This Years Winner Is are playing the Traf tonight (Fri 19th) with Gripper and next week Chris Flood will be playing with Tate! and Strengyn, also at the Traf on Friday 26th.
Since these will be the last two weekends of the Trafalgar’s life before Billy has to close up shop make sure you get down and show your support.
Hopefully in the next couple of weeks I’ll have more details on the This Years Winner Is debut single and the upcoming Slimpig greatest hits album too.

The single will be available through all good digital stores including iTunes, Amazon MP3 and more (see About page for all stores) as well as streaming on Spotify and Last.fm. The release date is TBC.

It’s been a while coming as Spotify have been copying the entire back catalogue of CD Baby over to their service, but you can now stream Opinion Is Not A Substitute For Reason by Chris Flood in all it’s rock-tastic Glory!
Hey everyone, great news! Chris Flood recently announced on his MySpace page his plans to record a second album. Here’s what he wrote:
After several hours of discussions with various people here and there (mainly there, in a pub), it has been decided that I, Chris Flood along with some variation of The Chris Flood Band will enter the studio within the next few weeks to begin work on a second album, a follow up to this year’s (or 2008 if you’re on the Isle of Man) debut album ’Opinion is not a substitute for Reason’.
There are a total of 21 new songs ready to be recorded, only a handful of which have been played by myself or the band at live shows. There’s one or two older songs in there, as well as a few brand spanking new ones that have been written within the last few weeks and months. The entire list of 21 songs will probably not make the final cut of the album either; only the best will make it. So in reality it’ll probably be around 14ish tracks. Statistically then, at least one third of the songs I write are shit!
The album will be recorded in Douglas by Phil Reynolds. Having already worked together on ‘Opinion is not a substitute for Reason’ we know how we work and what we can do, plus we get on really well! I’ll keep you all posted with blogs every couple of weeks or when something significant happens.
Meanwhile, there are currently no plans for Chris Flood (solo) or The Chris Flood Band to play any shows to accompany the album.
